"Pangolins accepted, Insurance Industry deserters prohibited"

Published on 28/05/2020 à 10:02

A restaurateur in Paris has prohibited the entry to his establishment of “Insurance deserters" while accepting "pangolins" in response to the refusal of insurance companies to compensate the owners of restaurants affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time he put in place an ironically labelled money pot stating : “Save our insurers”

Saturday March 14 at midnight: Alexandre Callet is forced to lower the shutters of his restaurant, Les Écuries de Richelieu, like all the bars, cafes and restaurants in the area. The risk of bankruptcy and final closure are real and immediate.

"Playing the economy"

However, this young entrepreneur is choosing not to freeze his bills and direct debit payments and to continue to gamble on the economy. Even if it means going into the red.

"You’re talking to a survivor!" The reaction is salient and echoes the overall situation of the country and the restaurant sector.

"Everyone is facing this ... except the insurance companies.”

According to Alexandre Callet, "everyone is facing this ... except the insurers". The state mobilized by taking exceptional measures (setting up partial unemployment in companies and assistance for the most disadvantaged). Certain professional categories did not hesitate to “face the enemy head on", like the medical profession.

"Insurers, deserters"

Faced with this unprecedented crisis, Alexandre Callet persists: "Why have the insurance companies, these economic giants, not also sought to borrow in order to finance this exceptional charge? As the French State has done and those like me, a simple restaurateur, I did it too! Where's the solidarity? I’d accept  pangolins in my restaurant before insurance deserters."

A "lack of solidarity" condemned by the entrepreneur. He has already placed an easel at the entrance to his restaurant with this message: "Pangolins accepted. Insurers-deserters prohibited".

"Save the insurers" an ironic money pot

The young restaurateur also jokingly set up, an ironic kitty jar to "Save our Insurers". All of the money raised will be donated to the fight against cancer.
