TazTag, Integrated Biometrics release mobile fingerprint scanner with POS capabilities

Published on 10/10/2017 à 16:08

TazTag and Integrated Biometrics have released TazPoS, a mobile fingerprint scanner with built-in point-of-sale (PoS) capabilities for law enforcement in the developing world to validate identity in the field.

Individuals in developing countries will now have the option of paying fines and fees on the spot, rather than being required to travel significant distances to courthouses or other government offices.

"Distance is a major challenge in North Africa, our initial market", said Eric Fouchard, president of TazTag, "The spaces are immense, and travel takes people away from families or jobs for unacceptably long periods of time. TazPoS directly solves this challenge, giving governments the ability to bring essential services out to people where they live, rather than the other way around".

TazPoS uses Integrated Biometrics' Columbo FAP 30 scanner as the foundation of its identity management system.

The scanner’s light-emitting sensor (LES) technology makes it an ideal single-finger solution for demanding physical environments, as it operates reliably in extreme temperatures, dirt, and other conditions that are common in the developing world.

In addition, lightweight design and low power requirements enable hours of reliable use without requiring a separate battery pack.

"The possible applications of fingerprint scanning are endless", said Stephen Thies, CEO of Integrated Biometrics, "TazPoS represents one of the many important and innovative uses for fingerprint biometrics in the marketplace. We are pleased to be working with TazTag, and they are to be commended for their vision and for introducing this exciting new handheld device."

TazTag will demonstrate TazPoS at GITEX Dubai from October 8-12. The company also plans to release additional versions of the TazPoS device, including units built exclusively for identity management or point-of-sale, as well as military applications.

These upcoming products will be integrated with Integrated Biometrics’ FAP 30 and FAP 50 sensors.

TazPoS will initially be launched in North Africa, with subsequent roll outs in additional international markets.

In other company news, Integrated Biometrics has shipped 450 units of its Five-O mobile ten-finger enrollment and matching device for use by the FBI, to improve the agency’s field identification capabilities.
